Attention Scouters of Hightower Trail District:
Our April Roundtables will be CANCELLED this month due to availability issues with both Briarcliff UMC and conflicts with Council meetings. We apologize for any confusion this might have caused.
Please plan to attend our May Roundtable on May 11, and meet our NEW District Director, Lee Harper! Our Boy Scout program will feature Tom Moorman, our District Advancement Chair. Tom will highlight some of
the new rank advancement requirements, emphasize the importance of registering as a Merit Badge Counselor, and discuss our monthly Eagle Scout Boards of Review.

March 2010 Hightower Trail Roundtable Notes
· Bethany Lee spoke about Scouting For Food
o On 3/27 the AAC will be sorting food collected at the Atlanta Community Food Bank
o Participating Scouts will drop off collection bags at homes and pick back up one week later
o Age limit 8+ for sorting (4:1 cubs to adults)
o More info contact bethanytlee@bellsouth.net
o Troops/Packs encouraged to use the Foodbank of their chartered org first
· Reporter Sally Sears & Eagle Sout Bob Rule spoke about the proposed Lavista Corridor trail
o All of the sewer lines along South Fork and North Fork of Peachtree Creek are being replaced.
o The idea is to build trails and greenspace along the ROW.
o There will be many opportunities for service and projects in years to come
o Right now, they are working with the Lindbergh Lavista Corridor Coalition and the South Fork Conservancy and will be starting at the I-85 / Lindbergh area on April 17th
o Project is being led by Eagle Scout & GSU student Bob Rule. Contact Robert.rule@lindberghlavista.org to RSVP or call 706-288-6557
o Ages – must be old enough to handle shovels & hand tools. (Bears / Webelos????)
· Per Alan Kemp - Clay Ipsen has officially resigned
o HTT will probably get 2 paid district executives (A Jr. & a Sr.)
o Alan Kemp reports that they expect to hire a new DE in the very near future (within days or a week.)
o Contact Ben Buckalew for anything in the meantime.
· Pat Huey spoke about HTT Cub Scout Day Camp on 6/14 – 6/18.
o With the departure of Clay Ipsen, the camp is in desperate need of a volunteer Program Director
§ Person would be responsible for making sure all the activities have the appropriate supplies, etc…
§ Would need to be available to go to Camp School this month. Contact Pat Huey for more details. hueypju@gmail.com
§ A planning meeting is happening TOMORROW (3/10) at Chamblee 1st UMC Scout Hut @ 7:00
· Webelos leader training @ Pack 129 on 4/17. Contact Otto Froelich at training@hightowertrailbsa.com
· Scuttlebutt:
o BSA will be moving to a one-year Webelos program.
o BSA is re-introducing Lions Dens (Kindergarten Age)
o In 2010, Cubmasters must be trained
o In 2011, Asst. Cubmasters must be trained
§ FYI, as far as the BSA is concerned, Den Leaders = Asst. Cubmaster
o BSA is moving to more advancement oriented model, hence the http://www.scouting.org/cubscouts2010.aspx push.
§ Literature & programs due out in May.
§ Unit leaders will be superivising / signing off much more than in the past.

Atlanta Motor Speedway
“Scout Day at the Races” – March 6, 2010
All scout packs should enter through Gate 13 which is near the Display Lot on the front of Speedway property.
Admission
FREE – All scouts in uniform
FREE – Parent with every four scouts in uniform
FREE – Parking in all speedway general parking areas (shuttles will be running)
FREE – Additional brothers or sisters (ages 12 and under) with scouts
$30 – Additional parents or adults with scouts
AMS recommends that you park in the blue parking lot (map attached).
Grandstand Seating
All seats will be in the Champions grandstand on the frontstretch.
Pinewood Derby at Atlanta Motor Speedway
Scouts are invited to bring along their ‘Pinewood Derby’ car and compete against other scouts. The derby will begin 1 hour after the conclusion of the Atlanta 200 Camping World Truck Series race. It will take place in the Raceway Ministries tent located just across from gate 13 (map attached). All scouts participating in this special event will receive a commemorative certificate, suitable for framing, proclaiming they have ‘Raced at Atlanta Motor Speedway’.
Concessions
Our award winning concession stands will be offering great race day specials and fun foods including cotton candy, funnel cakes, sno-cones, ice cream sandwiches and more.

9:35am NASCAR Camping World Truck Series qualifying
11:00am NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice
12:20pm NASCAR Sprint Cup Series final practice
1:30pm NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Driver Introductions
